about
our Unique Stories

welcome to our unique stories
This website is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the family genealogy and community history of African American families in Newton County, Mississippi.
For many Black families in the South, history was not always carefully recorded. The legacy of slavery, segregation, and systemic erasure left gaps in official documents and silences in public memory. This space exists to help restore those stories.
Our Philosophy
Genealogy is not just about names and dates. It is about understanding the lives behind those names — the farmers, church members, veterans, mothers, laborers, and community builders who shaped our hometown. By examining census records, land deeds, obituaries, military files, and church histories, we work to reconnect generations separated by time and circumstance.
our mission
- To document what was overlooked.
- To question what was assumed.
- To preserve what might otherwise be forgotten.
The stories shared here may seem small at first glance, but they form the intricate tapestry of resilience, faith, struggle, and perseverance that defines our community. These narratives bind families together and provide future generations with a deeper understanding of where they come from.
Every name recovered is a life remembered.
Every record examined is a step toward clarity.
Every story preserved is an act of honoring those who came before us.
