The infant son of Frank Royal and Alice Royal was stillborn on November 14, 1922, in Newton County, Mississippi. His brief life ended before it could begin, a sorrow shared quietly by many families during an era when medical resources were limited and infant mortality was tragically common.
The birth and death were attended by Iley Jane Evans, a midwife who served many families in the Altare and Newton communities. The death certificate was reported by Jarret (Jarred) Evans, who served as the informant, ensuring the child’s existence was formally recorded.
Although he never drew breath, the infant son of Frank Royal was lovingly laid to rest in the Evans Cemetery, where generations of the Evans, Royal, Chapman, Rigsby, and other community families are buried. His simple, unmarked place of rest stands as a reminder of the lives—however short—that shaped the history of this community.
In remembering him today, his name may be unknown, but his presence is honored alongside the many children whose brief time on earth was met with both grief and love. His memory is preserved through the documentation of Evans Cemetery and the ongoing historical work that restores dignity to those whose stories were scarcely recorded.
