Early Life in Newton County
Allean Ware Griffin was born on July 11, 1942, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Ben Ware (1922–2002) and Mattie Lou Evans (1923-2014). Raised in a small rural community steeped in tradition, Allean grew up surrounded by family, fellowship, and the familiar rhythm of Southern life. The Ware and Evans families were deeply rooted in the Altare area, and Allean’s upbringing reflected the strong values of love, faith, and intergenerational support that defined the community.
From childhood, she witnessed the significance of kinship networks, church gatherings, and the unspoken understanding that family was the cornerstone of survival and joy.
Marriage and Motherhood
On January 3, 1963, Allean married Charlie Daniel Griffin (1933–1982) in Texas. Their union represented the merging of two strong family lines, and together they built a home filled with devotion, hard work, and a shared desire to provide a stable foundation for their children.
From their marriage, the following known child was born:

Allean embraced motherhood with dedication, nurturing her children with the same values she had learned in Newton County—respect for elders, pride in heritage, and the importance of treating others with kindness. On August 5, 1981, Allean and Charlie filed for divorce in Dallas, Texas, marking the end of nearly two decades of shared life. Although their paths separated, they remained bound through their children and the memories they had forged over the years.
Tragedy struck soon after. On October 9, 1982, Charlie Griffin was killed after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest during an altercation. In a final act of duty and compassion, Allean served as the informant on his death certificate—a sobering reminder that despite the hardships they had endured, their shared history remained deeply meaningful.
Final Years and Passing
In her later years, Allean returned to the quiet comfort of her Mississippi roots. She remained connected to family and community, continuing to embody the values of compassion and perseverance that had guided her throughout her life.
Allean passed away on September 5, 2004, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and steadfast devotion to her family. She was laid to rest in the graveyard of Altare Missionary Baptist Church, surrounded by the familiar landscapes of her childhood and the generations of family members who had gone before her.
Her resting place, shaded by towering trees and embraced by the peaceful stillness of the Altare grounds, stands as a testament to a life defined by resilience, generosity, and deep familial loyalty.
