Early Life
Beatrice Chapman was born on September 30, 1933, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Andrew Chapman (1898–?) and Susie Walton Chapman (1897-1943). She was raised in a large, well-established Chapman family with deep roots in the Newton and St. John communities.
Marriage and Family
Beatrice married Grover Davis Walker (1916–1973). Their union brought together two long-connected families, the Walkers and the Chapmans, both central to the history of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Their known children include:
- Grover Walker, Jr. (1948–2016)
- Linda Marie Walker
Beatrice’s primary occupation throughout the years was keeping house, providing for her family through homemaking, childcare, and the daily responsibilities of maintaining a rural household.
Church Involvement
Beatrice was a devoted member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where her participation appears frequently in church programs and newspaper coverage.
She served in various capacities during St. John’s Annual Women’s Day, including:
