Life Story

Early Life

C. W. Walker was born on May 2, 1923, to Robert Walker (1893–1966) and Cordelia Donald Walker (1896–1966) in Newton County, Mississippi. He was part of the Walker–Donald family, whose roots run deep in the Bethel and Evans Cemetery community.

Illness and Passing

At just two months old, C. W. Walker passed away on July 4, 1923.
His death certificate lists whooping cough as the cause of death, a highly contagious and often fatal illness for infants during this period. There was no doctor in attendance, which was common in rural Mississippi where medical access was limited.

The informant listed on the death certificate was Waddie Walker, the brother of Robert, who provided assistance with the final arrangements.

Burial

The certificate lists Bethel as the burial place. Within this region and timeframe, Bethel was often used interchangeably with the nearby Evans Cemetery, suggesting he may be buried in the Evans family graveyard where many Walkers, Evans, and Chapman relatives rest.

Legacy

Although his life was brief, C. W. Walker’s story reflects the hardships faced by families in the early 20th century—particularly the devastating impact of childhood diseases before widespread vaccination and medical care. His memory endures through preserved records and the genealogical work that keeps his name remembered among his community and kin.
