Cora Evans Rigsby was born on June 10, 1919, in Newton County, Mississippi. She was raised in a faithful and hardworking family whose roots were deeply planted in the Altare, St. John, and broader Newton County communities. She attended the local schools and spent her life among relatives, church members, and neighbors who valued her gentleness and her service.

In early life, Cora joined the St. John Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted Christian for as long as her health allowed. Known as a kind, lovable young woman, she took active part in many departments of the church, offering time and support wherever she was needed. Her quiet dedication made her beloved by the congregation and the wider community.

During the last few years of her life, Cora experienced declining health, yet she continued to remain active and mobile until only a few weeks before her passing. She was 41 years old when she died in a Meridian hospital on April 15, 1960, after a brief illness.

Funeral and Burial

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 19, 1960, at St. John Baptist Church, with Pastor Rev. Wheeler officiating and assistance from Revs. J.F. Moore and L.D. Chapman. Family and friends filled the church in sorrow and remembrance. Cora was laid to rest in the Evans Cemetery, south of St. John Church, under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Forest.
