Early Life in Newton

Frank was born on May 26, 1949, to Frank Norman, Sr. and Minnie Harris Norman. He grew up in Newton, Mississippi, where his family lived on South 7th Street. Raised alongside his siblings, James and Jessie, Frank came of age in a household shaped by hard work, resilience, and community values.

His early years were rooted in the everyday life of mid-century Newton, where family, faith, and responsibility formed the foundation that would guide him throughout his life.


Military Service During the Vietnam Era

As a young man, Frank answered the call to serve his country. On June 2, 1969, at the age of twenty, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era.

Frank served with dedication and earned the rank of Specialist 5, often written as SP5. This rank reflected his skill, dependability, and ability to carry out important responsibilities within his unit. After completing his military service, Frank was honorably discharged on June 4, 1971.

He returned home to Newton as a proud United States Army veteran.


A Life Rooted in Community

After his military service, Frank resumed life in the community that had always been his anchor. Over the years, he lived in several familiar places in and around Newton, including East Church Street, rural routes near town, and later Pecan Road.

Frank shared his life with his wife, Eva Jordan Norman. To those who knew him, he was a steady and familiar presence—a man who had served beyond his hometown, yet chose to remain rooted in the people and places that shaped him.


Rest and Remembrance

Frank Norman, Jr. passed away on June 26, 2018, at the age of sixty-nine. In honor of his military service, he was laid to rest at the Mississippi State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi.

His final resting place is located in Section 6, Row 4, Plot 102, where he rests among fellow veterans who also gave part of their lives in service to the nation.
