Geneva Chapman was born around 1941 to Mason Chapman (1885–1964) and Lillie Mae Sorey Chapman (1900–1994). She was a member of the Chapman family, whose generations are closely tied to Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Newton County, Mississippi.
