Life Story


Birth and Parentage

George C. Page was born on January 31, 1935. His parents were Claude Rayford (1925–2006) and Sudie Rayford. He was raised within the Saint John community and maintained lifelong ties to the church and surrounding families.


Education

George C. Page graduated from E. T. Hawkins High School in Forest, Mississippi. He later attended Alcorn A&M College in Lorman, Mississippi, furthering his education before entering long-term military service.


Military Service

George C. Page enlisted in the United States Navy on July 13, 1955, and served for approximately 20 years before his discharge on September 12, 1975. His long service reflects a career in the Navy during the post-World War II era. His service was recognized with military funeral honors at the time of his burial.


Church and Community Life

George was a devoted member of Saint John Baptist Church, where his funeral services were held. The service was officiated by Rev. Purvis Moore and Rev. Theron Evans, reflecting his strong ties to the church leadership and congregation.


Death and Burial

George C. Page passed away on June 6, 1981, at the VA Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Military funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 10, at Saint John Baptist Church. He was laid to rest at Saint John M.B. Church Graveyard.

At the time of his death, George C. Page was survived by:

  • His mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rayford
  • Two sons: Timothy Anderson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Hezzie Page of Meridian, Mississippi
  • One daughter: Zennetta Wade of Meridian, Mississippi
  • Six grandchildren
  • Several aunts, uncles, and extended relatives
