Birth & Family Background
James Lee Evans was born on December 27, 1935, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Pete Evans (1888–1988) and Lula McDonald Evans (1894–2006). He was part of a large, close-knit Evans family deeply rooted in the Newton community.
Marriage & Children
James Lee Evans had twin sons with Bonnie Ruth Robinson (1932–2004):
- Michael Evans (1962–?)
- Marcus Evans (1962–1983)
He later married Dorothy Ruth Evans, and from this union one son was born:
- Gregory Walker (1956–1982)
Employment & Community Service
James Lee Evans devoted much of his working life to public service in Newton County. He was employed by the local school system, where he served as both a school bus driver and a janitor. His steady and dependable service to the community was formally recognized upon his retirement, when he was honored and presented with a retirement gift.
Music & Church Life
In addition to his employment, James Lee Evans was actively involved in gospel music. He was a member of The Harmoniers Gospel Quartet Group of Newton, Mississippi, contributing to the area’s long tradition of sacred music and church-centered community life.
Later Years & Death
James Lee Evans passed away on February 12, 2004. He is laid to rest at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church Graveyard in Newton County, Mississippi.
