Early Life

Keisha La’Dawn Walker was born on October 25, 1972, in Newton County, Mississippi. She grew up in the Saint John community, where church, school, and extended family life were closely intertwined.


Childhood and Education

From an early age, Keisha was actively engaged in educational programs that emphasized literacy and academic achievement. As a child, she participated in the Summer Reading Program at the Elliott McMullan Public Library, where she was recognized for reading the most books during the program year.

She was also involved in Head Start, and newspaper notices document her role as a parent contact in planning Head Start graduation activities, reflecting early leadership and community involvement.

During her school years, Keisha attended Newton High School, where she earned repeated academic recognition. Her name appears on the Principal’s List and Honor Roll, and she was also listed among students eligible for membership in the National Beta Club, an organization recognizing academic excellence and good citizenship.

She was laid to rest in the graveyard of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, returning to the same sacred ground where generations of her family are buried.
