Life Story

Early Life and Family Background

Linton Dukes was born a twin on December 31, 1962, in Newton County, Mississippi. He was the son of Arthur David Dukes, Jr. (1936–1967) and Velma Jean Evans Dukes (1940–1998), both members of long-established Newton County families with deep ties to the Altare, Bethel, and Evans Cemetery communities.

Growing up in a large and interconnected family, Linton experienced the supportive bonds and traditions that shaped generations of the Evans and Dukes lineages. The loss of his father in 1967, when Linton was still a young child, made these family connections even more important in his upbringing.

Education

Linton attended school in the Newton Public School System and was a proud graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1981. His high school years formed an important foundation for his adult life, friendships, and community identity.

Adulthood and Life Journey

Throughout his life, Linton remained closely connected to his family and to the Newton County community where he grew up. Although public records do not provide detailed information about his occupation or places of residence, he was known and remembered by those in his community as part of the strong Evans–Dukes family network.

Passing and Burial

Linton Dukes passed away on April 8, 2018, at the age of 55. After a life rooted in family, resilience, and community ties, he was laid to rest at the Evans Cemetery in the Bethel community of Newton County, Mississippi—among generations of his relatives.

Legacy

Linton is remembered with love and respect by his family, friends, and all who knew him. As a son, a twin, a graduate of Newton High, and a member of the Evans–Dukes family, his life forms an important part of the continuing story of the community from which he came.
