Life Story
Birth and Family
Robert Lee McNair was born on August 2, 1943, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Ned McNair (1914–1987) and Louise Kidd McNair (1912–2009). He entered the world during a time when rural Mississippi families leaned heavily on faith, kinship, and community for strength and support.
Though his life was brief, he was a beloved son within the McNair and Kidd families.
Tragic Passing
On October 20, 1943, at just two months old, Robert Lee McNair tragically lost his life in a house fire. Such accidents were devastating and, in many rural communities of the early twentieth century, not uncommon due to wood-frame homes, open flames for heating or cooking, and limited emergency response resources.
His passing was undoubtedly a heartbreaking loss for his young parents and extended family.
Burial and Remembrance
Robert Lee McNair was laid to rest at Spring Hill M.B. Church graveyard in Union, Newton County, Mississippi. His resting place stands among family and community members who share the sacred ground of Spring Hill.
Though his time on earth lasted only a short while, Robert Lee McNair remains a part of his family’s history—remembered as a precious child whose life, however brief, holds lasting meaning.
