Life Story


Birth & Parentage

Roy Williams was born about 1901 in Newton County, Mississippi, to William Williams (1876–?) and Eliza Williams (1877–?). He spent his early life in the Newton community, where his family was well established.


Occupation

Roy Williams worked as a farmer, an occupation that supported his household and reflected the agricultural foundation of the community during the early twentieth century.


Marriage

Roy Williams was married to Mariah Hill Williams (1905–1975). Their marriage is documented in local records and obituary notices.


Church Life

Roy was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he spent much of his early life and maintained strong ties to the congregation, even though his funeral services were later held at Saint John.


Death & Burial

Roy Williams passed away in 1961. Funeral services were held at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. L. D. Chapman officiating.

He was survived by his wife, Mariah Williams; his brother, Jesse Williams; and several nieces and nephews, all of Newton. Burial was made in the Saint John church cemetery, where he is laid to rest.
