Life Story
Ben Croft was the son of Jim Croft and Arline Evans (1882-?) born in Newton County, Mississippi, around 1903. Growing up in a close-knit community, he experienced the joys and challenges of rural life, forming lasting friendships in his formative years. As a young man, he had dreams and aspirations that reflected the hopes of many in his era, seeking to carve out a future during a time of both opportunity and uncertainty. Tragically, in his early twenties, he lost his life to tuberculosis, a devastating disease that was part of an epidemic sweeping through the nation, claiming many lives in its wake. His uncle, Tom Walker, was the informant on his death certificate, providing the vital details necessary to record this untimely passing. He was laid to rest in Newton County, a place that held the memories of his childhood, but the specific location of his burial remains uncertain, shrouded in the passage of time and the fading echoes of his existence.
