1915-1918
Life Story
Charley Chapman, Jr. was born on September 15, 1915, in Mississippi, a state known for its rich cultural heritage and turbulent history. His parents were Charlie Chapman (1869-?) and Laney Evans (1877), who were both part of a close-knit community that held deep ties to their roots. Unfortunately, Charley’s life was cut short when he tragically passed away at the young age of three, on October 22, 1918, due to influenza, a devastating illness that swept through the nation during that period, claiming countless lives and leaving families in mourning. His father, Charlie, served as the informant on his death certificate, a somber duty for a man who had already faced significant hardships and loss in his life. The world had not yet had the chance to see what Charley could have become, leaving a poignant mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
