Life Story

Rosa Belle Chapman was born on July 18, 1920, in the small town of Newton County, Mississippi. She was the beloved daughter of Genie Chapman (1887-1925), and Lela Palmer (1890-1977). Rosa was the paternal granddaughter of Daniel Chapman (1858-1931), a figure of strength in the community, and Mandy Jane Chapman (1863-1913). On her maternal side, she was the granddaughter of Robert Palmer (1874-?) and Alma Palmer (1873-1954).

Rosa passed away on November 14, 1920, at the tender age of three months due to colitis, a painful and debilitating condition that ultimately claimed her life far too soon. Her short life, albeit filled with hopes and dreams from her family, was tragically cut short, leaving her loved ones in profound grief. Her burial location is not recorded on her death certificate; therefore, it remains unknown. The absence of information surrounding her burial reflects the historical context of the time, where record-keeping was not as meticulous, and many families faced the heart-wrenching reality of losing their children to such health issues.
