Life Story
Andy Lindsey was born around 1889 in Newton County, Mississippi, where he grew up surrounded by the rhythms of rural life and the close ties of family and community. Like many young men of his generation, Andy worked as a farm laborer in his early years, learning the values of hard work and perseverance that would carry him throughout his life. He attended school through the sixth grade, a notable accomplishment for that era in rural Mississippi.
In 1911, Andy married Martha Moore (1890–1967), the daughter of George Moore (1840–?) and Matilda Evans (1857–?). Their marriage joined two long-established local families with deep roots in Newton County.
By 1920, Andy and Martha had moved to Washington County, Mississippi, where Andy continued working in agriculture. Their household was blessed with two children:
- J. Movie Lindsey (1911–?)
- Maude Lindsey (1912–1994)
By 1930, the family had returned to Newton County, where Andy resumed farming. Census records from that year indicate that he earned about $3,000 annually, a testament to his industrious nature and success as a farmer during a time when many families struggled to make ends meet.
Andy Lindsey passed away on December 15, 1966, closing a life marked by diligence, faith, and devotion to family. He was laid to rest in Altare M.B. Church Graveyard, where generations of his family lived, worked, and worshiped.
His story—rooted in the soil of Mississippi—reflects the perseverance and quiet strength of the Lindsey and Moore families, whose legacy continues through their descendants and the memories of the community they helped to build.
