Life Story
Early Life & Family
Titus Evans, sometimes recorded as Tytus Evans, was born on October 2, 1928, to Pete Evans (1888–1988) and Lula McDonald Evans (1894–2006). He was raised in Newton County, Mississippi, within a large farming family where shared labor, faith, and responsibility shaped daily life. Growing up among many siblings, Titus experienced the collective family structure that characterized the Evans household during the early twentieth century.
Marriage & Children
Around 1947, Titus married Willie Evans (1929–?). From this union, two daughters were born:
- Rebecca Evans (1948–?)
- Dorothy Evans (1949–?)
Though his life was brief, Titus became a husband and father at a young age, continuing the Evans family line into the next generation.
Migration & Later Years
Before leaving Mississippi, Titus worked in Newton County as an installation man for a local gas company, the same line of work pursued by his brothers during this period. This employment reflects a broader family pattern of transition from agricultural labor into utility and industrial work while still rooted in the Newton community. After gaining this experience, Titus later relocated to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, where he spent his final years.
Death & Burial
Titus (Tytus) Evans passed away on October 23, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, at just 23 years of age. He was returned to Newton County, Mississippi, where he was laid to rest at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church graveyard, among his parents, siblings, and extended family.
