Life Story
Early Life
Tom Thompson was born on August 17, 1915, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Tom Thompson, Sr. and Charlotte Thompson. His birth took place within one of the extended Thompson–Evans family networks that shaped the early Bethel and Altare communities.
Illness and Passing
Just six days after his birth, Tom passed away on August 23, 1915. His death certificate lists no attending doctor, and the cause of death was not determined, which was common in rural Mississippi during this era when medical access was limited.
The informant on his death certificate was Coit Evans, indicating close family or community involvement at the time of his passing.
Burial
Tom Thompson was laid to rest in the Evans Cemetery, where many family members and community ancestors are buried. Though his life was brief, his name remains part of the long and connected lineage of the Evans, Thompson, and related families of Newton County.
Legacy
As with many infants who passed in the early 20th century, Tom’s short life reflects the struggles families faced with limited medical care and the prevalence of childhood illness. His memory endures through preserved records, cemetery documentation, and the family histories being reconstructed today.
