Life Story
Dell L. Walker Jordan — a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted woman of faith — was born in March 1896 in Newton County, Mississippi, to Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Walker, members of one of the long-standing families in the Altare community. Raised in a household that valued faith, family, and hard work, Dell grew up learning the importance of service to others and the strength that comes from close community ties.
At an early age, she joined Altare Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and active member throughout her life. Dell devoted much of her time to the church and its ministries, offering her support wherever it was needed. Her deep faith and kind spirit earned her the respect and affection of all who knew her.
Dell was united in marriage to Willie Jordan, a devoted husband who preceded her in death. Their union was blessed with four children:
- Margie Mae Jordan (1918–1991)
- Lillisen Jordan (1920–1999)
- Bernice Walker (1931–1979)
- Eddie Jordan
Together, they built a home grounded in love, discipline, and a shared commitment to family values.
After a long and fulfilling life, Dell’s health began to decline, yet her faith remained steadfast. On November 19, 1970, she peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
At the time of her passing, she was survived by three daughters—Mrs. Margie M. Arrington of Newton, Mrs. Lillisen Mae Armstead, and Mrs. Bernice Walker, both of Laurel—and one son, Eddie Jordan of Sarasota, Florida. She also left behind 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends who continued to cherish her memory.
Funeral services were held at Altare Baptist Church, where she had worshiped for many years. Surrounded by family and friends, she was laid to rest in the church graveyard, joining many loved ones who had gone before her. Her life remains a testament to faith, perseverance, and enduring love.
