Life Story


Early Life and Family

Bobby Lee Chapman was born on December 13, 1935, in Newton County, Mississippi, to Dump Chapman (1893–1980) and Nellie Loper Chapman (1903–1995). He was a member of the Chapman family whose roots in Newton County extend back to the post-emancipation era and whose descendants were deeply connected to Saint John Missionary Baptist Church.

Death and Burial

Bobby Lee Chapman passed away on May 29, 1989, at the age of 53. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 3, 1989, at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Newton, with Rev. Purvis Moore officiating. Arrangements were handled by Holifield Funeral Home.

He was laid to rest at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church graveyard, alongside his parents and other members of the Chapman family.
