Life Story

The Infant Son of Carlton and Sarah Curry (1925)

On March 22, 1925, Carlton Curry and Sarah Williams Curry welcomed a son into the world in the Lawrence community of Newton County, Mississippi. The couple, both lifelong Mississippians, were already building a growing family in Beat 4, where they lived among a network of relatives, neighbors, and fellow church members.

What should have been a joyful occasion was instead marked by sorrow. According to his Mississippi death certificate, the infant was stillborn, passing away on the same day he was delivered. Though he was never given the opportunity to experience childhood or leave behind a personal story of his own, his brief existence was lovingly recorded by his family and preserved in the official records of Newton County.

The following day, March 23, 1925, the infant was laid to rest in the Lawrence community. His burial took place at what is now known as the Union Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, where generations of the Curry family and other local families would eventually find their final resting place.

Like many infants whose lives were measured only in moments, his story survives through the records left behind by grieving parents. Though his time on earth was brief, he remains a part of the enduring history of the Curry family and the Lawrence community.
